SLHS mourns the sad passing of Tomi Reichental

May 31, 2026

We, at SLHS, are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental. Tomi visited our school on more than one occasion, the last time being in February 2013. He spoke to the senior students about losing his family in the Holocaust, his traumatic childhood spent in Bergen Belsen concentration camp and the lessons he hoped that future generations would learn from the dangers of hatred, prejudice and indifference. He has been described as one of Ireland’s “most remarkable voices of remembrance, education and humanity.” A student of SLHS in 2013, after hearing Tomi speak,  wrote that she felt ..”truly privileged to have been present for a first hand account of an event that future generations will study as ancient history and have utmost respect for Mr Reichental for all that he has overcome.”
