Politics and Society – Trip to Belfast

September 12, 2025

On September 10th and 11th, our sixth-year students of History and Politics and Society travelled to Belfast for a two-day educational trip that combined history, culture, and politics in a truly engaging way. The itinerary included highlights such as The Titanic Experience, a guided mural and political tour, and a visit to the Ulster Museum. These experiences provided students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of historical events, social change, and cultural identity in Northern Ireland, while also enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Belfast city.
On the second day, the group visited Stormont Parliament Buildings for a guided tour, allowing students to see first-hand how political structures operate in Northern Ireland and to connect classroom learning with real-world institutions. The trip also provided a valuable insight into the importance of the Good Friday Agreement in shaping peace and political life in Northern Ireland. Overall, the visit was both educational and enjoyable, offering opportunities for discussion, reflection, and bonding outside the classroom. It served as a valuable supplement to Leaving Certificate studies, reinforcing key themes in both History and Politics and Society, while also creating lasting memories for our students. Sincere thanks to Ms O’ Connor, Ms MacLennan and Ms Stenson for organising this fantastic opportunity for our students.
