Introducing our School Therapy Dog – Lola

We are delighted to introduce the newest member of our school community, Lola, our trained therapy dog.
Lola successfully completed her therapy dog training over the summer and will begin working alongside students and staff this school year. Lola is a loving, gentle and calm natured dog. Her natural temperament makes her ideally suited to supporting the wellbeing of our school community.
Including Lola as our therapy dog in school will help to reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, encourage social interaction and create a positive, welcoming atmosphere within our school. Lola can support our students, particularly those who may experience stress, anxiety, difficulties with social interaction or challenges with school life.
For her first few weeks, Lola will be introduced gradually to allow her to settle into her new environment and to help students and staff become familiar with her routines. Over time, she will be involved in a range of activities throughout the school day, including wellbeing initiatives, small group support, classroom visits, lunchtime walks and reading or book club sessions.
Lola’s calm presence can help students feel more settled and confident. She provides opportunities for conversation, connection and positive social interaction between students and staff.
We also recognise that some people may be nervous around dogs or have allergies. Participation in any activities involving Lola will always be optional, and we will continue to ensure that the needs of all students and staff are respected.
