BIN IT CAMPAIGN

October 15, 2024

Last Friday, the BIN IT roadshow campaign visited St Louis High School. The aim of the roadshow is to drive positive behavioural change around attitudes to gum litter amongst students, making it the most significant roadshow to date. The Bin It! Roadshow is an integral part of the Gum Litter Taskforce’s (GLT) gum litter education campaign, which uses fun actor-led workshops and interactive learning materials to promote the responsible disposal of gum litter to schoolchildren.

Young people are increasingly eco-conscious, however even among this demographic, some 14% continue to litter their gum.

Research has shown that lifestyle patterns and habit formation begin at an early age, with schoolchildren thought to be most be susceptible to social influence from ages 11 to 14 years of age*, meaning the Roadshow plays a key role in developing proper litter disposal habits.

All 1st Years enjoyed a very interactive workshop with presenters Anna and Kevin, highlighting that all of us should take responsibility for binning our chewing gum and disposing of waste correctly. Well done to all our 1st years and Green Schools Committee who engaged so positively, the feedback from the presenters was amazing! Well done. We hope that the information shared will resonate with all our students and make a difference.
