Applications for use of bilingual dictionaries in the state exams 2025
February 28, 2025
Any 6th year or 3rd year student who wishes to be allowed to use a bilingual dictionary in their Leaving Certificate/Junior Cycle examinations in June should email me in the next week to let me know, so that the school can make an application to the State Examinations Commission for you. Please note that this facility is allowed when a candidate’s first language is not English or Irish.
Bilingual dictionaries are not allowed in an exam which is examining the candidate’s first language (e.g not allowed for a French student who is sitting Leaving Certificate French) or in a language exam which is closely related to the candidate’s first language. Bilingual dictionaries are also not allowed in the Leaving Certificate/Junior Cycle English examinations
Full details about the use of bilingual dictionaries can be found in R38 (EAL room), the library, or by asking Ms Mulcahy.
Please note that in order to be allowed to use a bilingual dictionary, the school must make this application for you, so please email me (nmulcahy@stlouishighschool.ie) your details before next Wednesday March 5th at 3:00 pm, in advance of the closing date which is the following week.
