Trip to Butler's Chocolate Factory
It’s safe to say that once the fifth year Home Ec classes heard there might be a trip to Butler’s Chocolate Factory nothing was going to stop them from getting there. After many reminders of money that had to be brought in, the day finally arrived. Excitement was definitely in the air. We hopped onto a coach and journeyed over to the factory in Santry. When we arrived we were immediately engrossed in the chocolatey atmosphere. Soon enough we were greeted by our tour guide Paul and were shown to a small cinema. Straight away the chocolate tasting began. We watched a short film on the history of chocolate and the Butler’s company and were then divided up for a tour of the factory. We viewed the whole factory from a glass balcony and were told what all the different machinery did and the different jobs people had. We then went to the museum where we filled in a quiz about chocolate and Butlers. Finally the time came for what we had all been waiting for! We were going to be decorating our own chocolate bears! We donned some spiffing hair nets and lab coats. There was then a short demonstration on how to make different shapes in the chocolate. Soon after, the decorating commenced! Some chose a more classic look for their bear with spots and small designs while others went straight in for it and dunked the whole bear into the white chocolate. It was a great day had by all! Thanks to Ms. Farragher and Ms. McLoughlin for organising the event and bringing us out to the chocolate factory. I would definitely recommend the trip to future Home Ec classes, just be prepared for the stomach ache from too much chocolate!
